Millbrook First Nation is seeking a Native Employment Officer to work in Millbrook, Nova Scotia. This is a one-year term, with possibility of renewal based on performance.
The Native Employment Officer (NEO) is responsible for facilitating employment initiatives; providing needs assessment and career counselling; identifying employment opportunities; securing funding for employment activities and programs; ensuring compliance with employment programs of the Sub-Agreement. The NEO will be responsible to provide services that will increase the employability skills and reduce individual dependence on Social programs. Provides access to employment opportunities that could have a significant effect on the overall well-being of Aboriginal clients. The Native Employment Officer will be under the direct supervision of the Band Administrator, the METS Executive Director.
The successful candidate would ideally possess the following qualifications:
University Degree in a social service field - or -
Diploma/Certificate in social service field - or -
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle
Must provide a Criminal Record Check; Vulnerable Sector
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as an effective team member.
General knowledge of Mi’kmaq culture, and general issues on the Millbrook First Nation.
Understanding of the Mi’kmaq Employment/Training Secretariat.
Preference will be given to Millbrook Band Members of Mi’kmaq descent.
Salary:$40,000-45,000 per annum
